Blairgowrie Action Group (BAG):
This group meets from 4.30pm to 6pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron. We welcome residents, traders, and visitors to the area to attend these meetings. We have our local councillor and a representative from the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council at most meetings. It's an opportunity to put your views on maintaining and improving our great beachside area.
BAG achievements so far….
- Organized new flags flying for holiday seasons at Village (all tools in Hardware)
- Had 2 new picnic tables & fence/gate around Playground by MPSC
- Installation of several new picnic tables on Foreshore by WCCBFC
- Upgrade of Foreshore Reserve by WCCBFC
- Installation of new Shared Pathway from Canterbury Jetty Rd to Village shops by MPSC with necessary approvals from WCCBFC on south side of Point Nepean Rd
- Arranged for installation of new Timber/Stainless Steel bin surrounds for garbage bins in Village nature reserve, opposite shops to match those on paving area by MPSC
- Arranged for 2 new picnic tables in Village nature reserve by MPSC
- Had new plants introduced to hide communications equipment in nature reserve by MPSC
- Parking bays line markings installed by MPSC in rear laneway at Village
- Had some new bus shelters installed by MPSC
- Arranged for a safe new pedestrian crossing to be installed by MPSC in Wilson Rd to link Village shops and reduce traffic speed through Village
- Arranged for new Welcome to Blairgowrie “sail” sign to be installed by MPSC with approval from WCCBFC opposite Motel on north side of Hwy
Had MPSC replace the Give Way signs in Village with Stop signs to make it safer for all users
- Arranged for MPSC to do some works on Open Drain on beach opposite Village (requires more work)
- Consulted with MPSC for installation of new Historical Plaque at Penman Reserve ( playground)
- Liaised with MPSC re installation of new pedestrian refuge at intersection of Canterbury Jetty Rd & Pt Nepean Rd
- Consulted with WCCBFC for installation of bollards on Foreshore to match Village bollards
- Arranged the enforcement of parking restrictions by MPSC during peak holiday periods
Initiated a successful Petition seeking support for installation of more shared paths in Blairgowrie
- Were successful in having MPSC install an extension to the shared path from Canterbury Jetty Rd to Tibir St on south side of Melbourne
Suggested Actions for 2010.....
- Repairs to "original" Welcome to Blairgowrie (sail) sign
- Support & seek replacement of Public Toilet block opposite Village with smaller, modern Unisex/Disabled friendly block with outside showers like Rye Foreshore past Woolworths with MPSC & WCCBFC
- Arrange for MPSC to have Village paving thoroughly cleaned before sealant is applied & have regular cleaning schedule introduced
- Arrange for WCCBFC and MPSC to agree on & implement a proper landscape/planting schedule for the new Shared pathway from Canterbury Jetty Rd to Village shops
- Organise with MPSC a better solution to the Open storm water drain on beach opposite Village
- Prepare a Petition to DSE seeking the linking of a safe walking track from Rye through to Sorrento on the Foreshore
- Support the MPSC to organize the repair of bike lanes via Vic Roads and/or other necessary Authorities
- Seek the installation of Timber/Stainless Steel rubbish bin surrounds for those in high visibility areas with MPSC & WCCBFC
- Encourage the attendance of a MPSC Rep at all WCCBFC monthly meetings
- Seek an end to "burning off" on the Peninsula via our Councillor & MPSC with introduction of alternative options for green waste
- Aim to have an Interpretive Trail installed on the Foreshore from Tyrone to the Village and beyond, with Historical markers – MPSC & WCCBFC
- Arrange with MPSC & WCCBFC for increase in rubbish bin clearing at Village & on Foreshores during peak periods. Modify contracts to suit need.
- Seek the reintroduction of "Left Turn only" sign at exit from BYS carpark onto Pt Nepean Rd. Work with MPSC & WCCBFC
- Encourage the MPSC, WCCBFC & CFA to work together and minimize the Fire Risk "hotspots" in Blairgowrie
- Increase the awareness of our BAG team to all residents and visitors to Blairgowrie – recruit more members
- Obtain details for BAG members of the recent Review of Reserves in Blairgowrie
- Obtain a timetable for future proposed Shared Pathways through Blairgowrie
- Seek a review by MPSC of the Village Streetscape in consultation with BAG Plan Ref. No. 99021-02
- Consider the reintroduction of an annual Blairgowrie Festival (and/or SWELL Sculpture) for say, pre Christmas or March – have a team of 3 members to work with MPSC & other relevant Authorities
- Have suitable plants/landscaping to hide the Communications boxes and perhaps have a small Community Park on the corner of Melbourne & Canterbury Jetty Rd

Portsea Village Group:
Members of your committee represented the NRA on the Portsea Village Landscape Master Plan Committee. This committee was also represented (amongst others) by the Portsea community, officers of the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, divers, planners and an aborist. The Master Plan was on exhibition to the community. Some of the issues were:
Plan to replace the cypress trees be implemented in stages. The avenue of cypress trees to the east of Portsea Village, and also the cypress trees to the west of Back Beach Road, can be retained for another ten years provided they are property maintained.
The proposed eventual replacement tree for the cyrpess is Cedrus Libani, Lebanese Cedar
Improvement of landscape in Newtons Reserve, including new plantings, park furniture, replacement of sleeper walls, paving and lighting.
Increase in parking
Traffic management including installation of predestrian crossing and speed limit reduced to 50 kph
Of continuing concern is the issue of overflowing rubbish bins and the need for a weekly recycling collection during the peak holiday periods.

Sorrento Township Group:
Sorrento Township Group maintains a watching brief on developments in Sorrento particularly in Ocean Beach Road. Group members are also involved in the No Nonsense New Years Eve programme which has proved enormously successfull over the years ensuring a safe family night for all residents of Sorrento and Portsea.
Input to Shire on maintaining the Camerons Bight Leash Free Dog Beach has ensured that this beach remains available all year round to our 4 legged friends.
